Women's Health

HERC is working in partnership with The Avon Foundation and the San Francisco Dept. of Public Health.

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Programs are designed to:
  • Provide information and education to women pertaining to breast and cervical cancer
  • Provide comprehensive training to women residing in Bayview Hunters Point on the technique of “Breast Self Examination”
  • Develop a volunteer community team to reach women with information and resources concerning breast and cervical cancer
  • Encourage early detection, screening, diagnosis, and treatment for women who are at high risk for breast and cervical cancer

The Community Health Education component of our work teaches residents about environmental factors influencing their health in a group setting. Presentations are made to community-based organizations, churches, as well as community groups.
