Asthma Internships
HERC will train interns to teach the American Lung Association’s Asthma curriculum in various schools and childcare facilities in Bayview Hunters Point and/or to become better informed on various methods of asthma management. .

Asthma 101A Workshops are the first step toward completing the Asthma Internship Program . The workshop is four hours and generally held on Saturdays.
Completion of the Asthma Internship Program will entail participation in Asthma 101A & coverage of one six-week classroom curriculum.
Interested participants must register for Asthma 101A in advance.
The workshop prepares participants to teach asthma curriculums in the schools and/or to become better informed on various methods of asthma management.
By the conclusion of the workshop you will have an increased knowledge and awareness of the following topics:
- About the Respiratory System
- What is Asthma
- Asthma Symptoms and Treatments
- Nocturnal Asthma
- Asthma Medications
- Avoiding Asthma
- Triggers
- Peak Flow Monitoring

Cancer Outreach Internships
HERC offers monthly workshops for interns. These workshops are geared towards learning about the techniques fpr early detection of cancer.
We are also looking for women interested in being trained to conduct door-to-door home visits that will focus on breast and cervical health.

Our Women’s Health in the Point Project (WHIPP) is designed to reduce the prevalence of breast and cervical cancer among women residing in the Bayview Hunters Point district of San Francisco. WHIPP trains interns through monthly BSE Workshops geared toward early detection of cancer .
Each 5-hour BSE Workshop is taught over two
sessions, usually on Saturdays.
The workshops encourage women to appreciate and engage in:
- Learning the American Cancer Society (ACS) breast cancer detection guidelines
- Early detection practices
- Practicing breast self-examination (BSE) confidently and competently
