Providing hope to our residents
HERC in partnership with the San Francisco Food Bank has opened up a food pantry in the Alice Griffith Housing Project (Double Rock) to serve fresh food rations to its residents.
Every Friday at 10 Cameron Way, Double Rock residents are served fresh and canned food rations to take home to provide healthy, nutritious filling meals to their families.
Hunger is a symptom of poverty and the residents of Bayview Hunters Point are plagued by poverty.
11% of San Francisco's population lives in poverty[1] and more than 150,000 San Franciscans live with the threat of going hungry.
Low income families, children, senior citizens on fixed incomes, homeless people, people living with HIV or AIDS, and people struggling to move from welfare to work cannot pay basic living expenses and put food on the table.
Rising unemployment and the weak economy have added to the need in San Francisco.
