THE BAKA PROJECT

BAKA is an African term meaning “enlightenment.” The BAKA Project's goal is to ultimately eradicate health disparities among individuals living in Bayview Hunters Point.

BAKA is currently providing a needs assessment for the pre-planning phase of the Southeast Health Center expansion. The Southeast Health Center is at 2401 Keith Street, San Francisco, CA,< 94124, in back of Bayview Park on Third Street where the newly renovated Martin Luther King, Jr. swimming pool is located. The expansion will assist with guiding the community toward better health.

We are conducting outreach in the Bayview Hunters Point community to inform residents of the expansion, going door-to-door and asking residents to complete a health survey that addresses health issues and concerns in Bayview Hunters Point. We are also hosting a series of community meetings in Bayview Hunters Point involving community persons, health professionals, Southeast Health Center Advisory Board members and Project Area (PAC) Committee Members. Community residents are encouraged to attend and voice their concerns, opinions and suggestions regarding the expansion.

The BAKA Project office is located at #2 Cameron Way (inside Alice Griffith, “Double Rock” Housing Complex), San Francisco, CA, 94124. HERC is the parent organization for BAKA, which is funded by the San Francisco Department of the Environment.
