The Asthma Program

Breathing Counts is an empowerment model of community-based health education for persons living with asthma. In coordination with other agencies.
Breathing Counts provides information, education, training and referrals pertinent to asthma management.  

Activities include:
  • The School Based Project - targets children who have been diagnosed with asthma or who have asthma-like symptoms. 
  • School tours of the Asthma Resource Center are available by appointment.
  • The Asthma Internship Program prepares interns to teach asthma curriculums in the schools. 
  • One-on-one Workshops for adult asthmatics and parents or guardians of asthmatics.  Available by appointment.
  • The Healthy Homes Project - arranges in-home visits by community health workers who identify asthma triggers and suggest cleaning methods.
  • PresentationsHERC staff conduct informational presentations at schools, health fairs, and community-based organizations regarding asthma.

HERC IS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR AN ASTHMA ADVISORY COMMITTEE. 

ASTHMATICS AND PARENTS OR GUARDIANS OF ASTHMATIC CHILDREN ARE  ESPECIALLY WELCOME.
